Moisture is the main enemy, not sun
Sun fades fabric over time, but standing moisture is generally what actually breaks cushion foam down and causes mildew - rain that sits against a cushion left uncovered, or a cover put on over damp cushions, does more damage than the same cushions left in direct sun but allowed to dry fully first. Letting cushions dry completely before covering or storing them matters more than minimizing sun exposure.
Using the included cover well
Most sets in the Rattaner range include a furniture cover, and how it is used matters as much as whether it is used at all.
